Byway Funding Included in Senate Bill

Last week we received great news: the Senate Appropriations Committee included $35 million in funding for scenic byways in its appropriations bill for Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development (THUD), and related agencies for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2021.

 
 

 New Byways Research Released

The National Scenic Byway Foundation recently released the findings of a research project exploring trip planning needs and preferences of byway travelers. Respondents overwhelmingly reported that seeing the scenic views was the top highlight.

 

Scenic Pittsburgh Marks 10 Years

Instead of planning an event to celebrate its 10th anniversary this month, our Scenic Pittsburgh chapter is channeling its resources into programs and efforts to protect, enhance, and promote the scenic beauty of the region— work that is increasingly important as the pandemic underscores the importance of public greenspace.

 

Place Making Institute Provides Resources for City Planners

To empower planners in historic and scenic cities and towns to better balance these disparate viewpoints and priorities, preservation and planning experts Ronald Lee Fleming, FAICP, and Jeffrey Soule, FAICP, developed the Place Making Institute (PMI).

 

Fleming Releases New Book

Scenic America Chairman Emeritus and longtime supporter Ronald Lee Fleming's latest book chronicles the development of the stunning gardens of Bellevue House through photographs and storytelling. In The Adventures of a Narrative Gardener: Creating a Landscape of Memory, Fleming uses the gardens as a lens for exploring the deeper impact of his life experiences, including the year he spent as a soldier in Vietnam. The book is currently available in select book stores and is available for preorder on Amazon.com with release slated for December 1.
